Sania Mirza wins Australian Open mixed doubles title

Sania Mirza won her first career grand slam when partnering with veteran Indin star Mahesh Bhupathi, the Indian pair defeated the opponents in straight sets.

Mirza and Bhupathi beat the pair of Nathalie Dechy (France) and Andy Ram (Israel) in two sets 6-3, 6-1. The final turned out to be one-sided and was wrapped up in less than an hour.

Last year the Indian pair had lost in the final. However, they have made up for the last year's defeat with stylish victory. Mahesh Bhupathi has now won nine grand slam titles, the highest for any Indian.

She is the first Indian woman to ever win a grand slam title. Mirza had a tough year in 2008 when she remained away from the court due to injuries. She went out of the top 100 in the WTA ranking.
