Fifteen persons were feared dead while over 50 were reported injured when the Coromandel Express train derailed near Jajpur railway station in Orissa on Friday.
The accident occurred nearly 100 km from Orissa's capital Bhubaneswar. The railway officials feared that the toll could go up. Rescue operations were on and the State police chief had rushed to the scene of accident.
The incident occurred just a few hours after the Railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav had delivered the interim rail budget speech in the Parliament, focusing on rail security and decline in mishaps.
The derailment occurred at Jajpur-Keonjhar railway section, 70 km near Cuttack. Railway ministry has ordered a probe into the accident. A compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of every person who died in the mishap, has been announced.
