Actor Manoj Tiwari's convoy hits motorcycle, 2 dead

The convoy of Bhojpuri actor and Samajwadi Party candidate from Gorakhpur, Manoj Tiwari, allegedly hit a motorcycle on Saturday, causing the death of two persons on the spot.

Tiwari was returning after a road show late on Friday night when one of the cars in the cavalcade run over the youths. The motorcyle-borne youths--Rajkumar and Pintu were returning to their village from Gorakhpur.

They were admitted to hospital where they were declared dead. Local residents staged a demonstration and blocked vehicular traffic on the highway. The police had registered a case against driver of an unidentified vehicle for the mishap.

No case was registered against Tiwari. A police vehicle was also part of the cavalcade that comprised several vehicles. Tiwari has refuted the charges that his car caused the accident.

The Bhojpuri star has earlier actor in a number of Bollywood movies. Later he left Mumbai and acted in Bhojpuri films where he established himself as a lead hero. SP has named him a contestant from Gorakhpur for the forthcoming Parliamentary elections.
