Saying that he is neither Hindu nor Muslim but Parsi, the religion of Jinnah's wife, a lawyer has written to Ajmar Amir Kasab and asked the latter's permission to plead the case.
Advocate KBN Lam, a Mumbai resident has sent a letter to Kasab through the Mumbai crime branch. In the letter written in Urdu, Lam has sought Ajmal Kasab's persmission to fight his case.
Kasab is the sole survivor among the terrorists who had attacked Mumbai on 26th November. Lam had earlier written the letter in English but there was no response from the accused.
Believing that Kasab was a school dropout and couldn't understand English, the pleader has sent the second letter. He has communicated that he shares the religious of Qaid-e-Azam's wife and was interested in standing for him in the court of law in connection with the 26/11 case.
Lam, who is a Parsi (Zoroastrian) has also told Kasab that there should be some way for him to meet his parents who are in Pakistan. After the government lawyer refused to take up the case, Lam has decided to take up the case.
