Muslims stage massive protest in Lucknow

A mammoth rally was organised in Lucknow to protest the excesses of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and defaming of Azamgarh Muslims. Hindu saints also attended the rally.

Thousands of Muslims under the aegis of Ulema Council organised the demonstration in the Uttar Pradesh capital on Friday. Two trains full of Muslims had reached from Azamgarh for the rally. Surprisingly, many Hindu saints from Ayodhya attended the conclave.

The speakers warned the Uttar Pradesh government and the Centre to stop targeting innocent Muslims in the name of fighting terror. They criticized the government for inaction and said that Azamgarh had been dubbed as breeding ground of terror.

Swamy Haridayal Mishra of Ayodhya supported the demands of Muslims and said that the community was put under suspicion and was harassed. Ulema Council has suggested the name of Amaresh Mishra as its candidate from the Lucknow constituency.

Council chief Maulana Amir Rashadi Madani said that Muslim youths were implicated and framed in false cases of terrorism. "We are sad for the death of MC Sharma, the inspector in Batla House encounter but there should have been proper inquiry to find out whose bullet caused the death".

Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and BJP leaders LK Advani and Narendra Modi were held responsible for unrest in the society. The main demonstration was held at Tile Wali Masjid.
