Muthalik, 135 others detained ahead of V-Day

Pramod Muthalik, chief of militant Hindu outfit Sri Ram Sene, was taken in custody along with 135 other potential troublemakers on the eve of St Valentine's Day.

Pramod Muthalik was caught by the police when he was on way from Bangalore to Gulbarga. Owing to the outfit's threat to forcibly marry the young boys and girls found together at public places in Bangalore and other cities, the police caught him.

Officials said that it was a precautionary step in order to ensure peace. Though Muthalik had succumbed to pressure and said that there would not be any protest in Bangalore, he had announced that the 'moral policing' would go as per plans in rest of the Karnataka.

Those taken in custody include activists of Bajrang Dal and other right-wing Hindutva groups who had threatened to take action against youngsters who go on dating, on February 14. Ram Sene (also Sena) has been involved in attacks on Churches in the past.
