RAW official arrested for taking bribe

An official of RAW, the Indian intelligence agency, was arresetd for accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh, said Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday.

The RAW official, AS Narayan Rao, was allegedly taking the bribe to clear files of an export company. Rao had promised to use his connections to get the work done and had demanded Rs 8 lakh.

CBI officials said that Rs 1 lakh was the first installment of the amount. CBI's spokesperson Harsh Bahal confirmed that Rao was caught in a hotel in Karol Bagh locality.

The Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) is India's premier foreign intelligence agency. The arrest has sent shock waves, as it comes just within days of arrest of an officer of Indian Police Service (IPS) Saji Mohan, for carrying 12 kg heroin.
