The chief of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) KS Sudarshan on Saturday said that the government was responsible for the demolition of Babri Masjid and not Kar Sewaks.
The statement has caused a stir in the BJP and the RSS cadre. Though Sudarshan didn't specify whether he held the PV Narasimha Rao-led Congress government that was at the Centre responsible for the demolition or the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh.
At a function of the RSS at Shajapur in Madhya Pradesh, the RSS sarsanghchalak said that he was present in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992 and the intentions of the Karsewaks was to construct temple at an undisputed place.
But the structure was razed at the government's behest and the workers of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad were implicated as part of a conspiracy, he said. Sudarshan's statement comes in wake of BJP chief Rajnath Singh's statement that the party was committed to construct the Ram Temple.
