Vinod Kambli enters politics, joins Lok Bharti

Former Indian test cricketer Vinod Kambli has announced his decision to join a relatively lesser-known political outfit, Lok Bharti, in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Kambli said that he had offers from different parties but he chose to join Lok Bharti has he wanted to work at the grassroots and solve the problems of the poor and underprivileged.

"After the terrorist attack in Mumbai, I also felt the need for a change in Indian politics and as the party is working in the field of education and is active among masses, I have joined it", said Kambli, who has two double centuries to his credit in tests.

A childhood friend of Sachin Tendulkar, Kambli has represented India in 17 tests and over 100 Limited Over Internationals. Kambli had rose to fame when he and Tendulkar had sored a partnership of 664 runs in school cricket.

The 37-year-old had list played at the international level nine years ago. The former cricketer has joined the party as its national vice-president. Kambli has also announced that he is launching an academy to promote sports.
