Criminal case against Varun Gandhi

A criminal case has been registered against the BJP candidate from Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi, for inciting enmity among different sections of the society in his speech.

The Election Commission (EC) had directed the district magistrate to register an FIR for the inflammatory speech, which Varun had delivered during his election campaign recently.

Following the orders, the case was registered against Varun under section 153 (A) for promoting hatred and causing disharmony other than sections 123 (A) and 123 (B).
The EC had also sought explanation from the District Magistrate (DM).

A Congress delegation met the Election Commission N Gopalaswamy regarding the offensive speeches. The CD was aired by various news channels on Monday, causing outrage.

Meanwhile, the BJP leaders have also condemned the speech. Party leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said that Varun has abused the Muslims of the country and he should apologise.
