Six teachers who had allegedly gang raped a Dalit girl student in Gujarat's Patan a year ago, have been sentenced to life imprisonment by a special court on Friday.
The shocking incident of rape at the Primary Teachers' Training College had come to light last year. The six teachers--Manish Parmar, Ashwin Parmar, Kiran Patel, Suresh Patel, Atul Patel and Mahendra Prajapati, were held guilty by the court.
The judge SC Shrivastava pronounced the judgment. All the six teachers were sentenced for life term. They have also been penalised and a fine of Rs 4,000 each was imposed on them.
Besides, they will have to pay compensation of Rs 10,000 each to the victim' family. The girl was raped over a period of six months by the gang of teachers who sexually assaulted her.
Later the girl mustered courage and informed the parents. After the case hit the headlines, the Narendra Modi government had ordered a magisterial inquiry and compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the victim.
