Police stop Pravin Togadia, VHP workers cane-charged

Jain doctor Praveen Togadia leads VHP
The Uttar Pradesh police cane-charged the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) workers led by Pravin Togadia in Bhadohi on Friday. Ten persons were injured in the incident.

Togadia was on his way towards the residence of VHP district chief Jagdish Jaiswal when the police stopped him for passing through a communally sensitive area. His car was not allowed to move further.

However, when the VHP workers refused to go by an alternative route and had confrontation with police, they were forcibly stopped at Ahmadganj crossing. The police later resorted to lathi-charge that resulted in injuries to ten activists.

Togadia, who is the general secretary of the VHP, is a firebrand leader. Though a Jain by religion, he has been an outspoken leader for VHP which is considered a fundamentalist Hindu organisation and a proponent of the philosophy of Hindutva.
