Slipper thrown at Advani in Madhya Pradesh
April 16, 2009
A BJP worker hurled a footwear at the party's Prime Ministerial candidate LK Advani during an election meeting in Katni district in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday.
The slipper missed the target but the person was immediately taken into custody and policemen took him away. He was identified as one, Pawas Agarwal, who was associated with Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of BJP.
It is not known why Agarwal chose to throw chappal at the veteran party leader. The incident comes in wake of a Sikh journalist Jarnail Singh throwing a shoe at Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and later a retired teacher committing a similar act in Haryana, targeting Congress MP Navin Jindal.
There was an intelligence input that a footwear could be thrown during Advani's public function earlier in Thiruvananthapuram and the people were asked to take off their shoes. However, it occurred in Katni where Advani arrived for campaigning today. He appeared unruffled and delivered his speech without mentioning the episode.
