Pakistan win T20 World Cup cricket tournament

Pakistan beat Sri Lanka in the final of the Twenty-20 World Cup on Sunday. The victory has led to celebrations across Pakistan, which is facing turmoil.

In the final that was played in London, the resurgent Pakistani team convincingly beat Sri Lanka. They won by eight wickets. Shahid Afridi played a superlative knock of 54 off 40 balls.

Afridi had also bowled magnificently throughout the tournament and also bowled well in the final. Earlier, batting first Sri Lanka had given Pakistan a target of 139 runs in 20 overs.

Kumar Sangakkara had hit unbeaten 64. Pakistan managed to win the game easily in the 19th over. It is noteworthy that Pakistan were not considered a strong squad ahead of the world cup.

India and South Africa were among the favourites. Defending champions India however failed to live up to expectations. MS Dhoni's men appeared tired and low on confidence in the second T20 world cup.
