Former Shahi Imam Abdullah Bukhari dies

The former Shahi Imam of Delhi's historic Jama Masjid, Abdullah Bukhari passed away in a hospital on Wednesday. His son Ahmad Bukhari is the present Shahi Imam.

Bukhari was ill for a long time and was undergoing treatment. The news of his death was confirmed by the office of the Shahi Imam today. The last rites were scheduled to be performed in the afternoon.

Bukhari was 87. He is survived by four sons and two daughters. He was the 12th Shahi Imam of the mosque. His family hails from the historic city of Bukhara and had settled in Delhi during the Mughal rule.
