Rita Bahuguna Joshi jailed for insulting Mayawati

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chairperson Rita Bahuguna Joshi was sent to judicial custody for two weeks for her derogatory remarks against Mayawati.
Commenting on the law-and-order situation in UP where rapes keep happening and Mayawati is handing over cash as relief to rape victims, Joshi had reportedly questioned if she (Mayawati) was willing to be raped for a compensation of Rs 1 crore.
After the comments were showsn on television channels, Joshi was booked under the Atrocities on SC/ST (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Act. She was soon arrested, produced before a magistrate and was then sent to prison.
She is charged of insulting the Chief Minister. Her house was also set afire by suspected BSP activists. But BSP leader Satish Chandra Mishra said that the Congress workers had themselves set the house ablaze.
