Opposing oath in Hindi, MNS MLAs beat Abu Asim Azmi in Maharashtra Assembly

Add caption
The Maharashtra Assembly witnessed unruly scenes when MNS MLAs beat up Samajwadi Party's Abu Asim Azmi for taking oath in Hindi instead of Marathi.

Azmi was hit by the MNS legislators who reached the well of the House and attacked the SP leader. They were raising slogans in support of Marathi as they kicked and abused Azmi.

The unprecedented scenes were shown on television, outraging millions, as Azmi was attacked for taking oath in the national language, Hindi, instead of the state language, Marathi.

Later speaking to media persons Azmi said that he had earlier said that he respected Marathi but would take oath in Hindi. There was condemnation of MNS action from all parts of the society. Marathi is the official state language but Hindi is considered important as it is an official language.
