On the 17th anniversary of the demolition of the historic Babri Masjid, the protests were mostly held in Southern Indian states like Tamil Nadu and AP.
Hundreds of demonstrators marched towards Home Minister P Chidambaram's residence and courted arress on way. They included over 150 women of the Tauheed Jamaat.
In Hyderabad, strong protests demanding the arrest of the culprits of the demolition, were held. Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam and Popular Front also staged massive protests.
The Muslim youths urged governments to arrest LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Vinay Katiyar, Kalyan Singh, Ashok Singhal, Uma Bharti and other BJP-VHP leaders who had taken part in the demoltion on December 6, 1992.
The immediate arrest of the politicians who have been indicted by the Liberhan commission, was demanded in the protests across the country. In Mumbai, Muslim-dominated Bhiwandi and Malegaon towns of Maharashtra also there were protests of similar nature.
In national capital, Delhi, the protests were held and demand to rebuild the mosque was raised. At Jama Masjid, Muslim youths chanted slogans and urged the government to take action on fundamentalist groups. Some Hindu groups observed it as 'shaurya divas' or the 'Day of Valour'.
