Ruchika's death: Case against school for expelling girl

A public interesting litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the school that had expelled teenaged molestation victim Ruchika Girhotra.

The 14-year-old girl had been molested by a high-ranking police officer, SPS Rathor, who later went on to become the DGP of Haryana police. He allegedly harassed the girl's family and booked her brother in a dozen cases.

Ruchika committed suicide and her family suffers the trauma to this day. Recently, a court sentenced Rathore to a mere six months prison sentence, which outraged the nation.

But the role of the Sacred Hearts school that expelled the girl, who had been physically abused by the officer, is also under examination. An inquiry has begun. Today lawyer Ranjan Lakhanpal filed a PIL against the school that didn't extend help to the victim, rather expelled her under the police officer's pressure.
