'Ban Bajrang Dal, VHP for Saffron terrorism'

After Home Minister P Chidambaram cautioned police chiefs of all the states regarding the existence of Saffron terrorism, the demand to ban militant Hindu organisations affiliated to RSS was raised in Indian Parliament.

After the BJP members forced adjournment twice over Chidambaram's use of the term 'Saffron terrorism', the Rajya Sabha again assembled in the afternoon.

Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) supremo Ramvilas Paswan said that Hindutva forces have been involved in terrorist activities. He said that Chidambaram has made the right comment about extremist Hindu organisations.

Paswan said that RSS was involved in fanning hatred and communalism in the country and its affiliated organizations including Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) should be banned.

This angered the BJP and Shiv Sena members who reacted sharply. Amid the uproarious scenes and din, the speaker adjourned the Upper House for the day.

Earlier, BJP's Arun Jaitley said that the term was objectionable and it should not be used. BJP and Shiv Sena members said that a particular religion was being targeted and defamed while terror has no religion.
