Asimanand reveals RSS' terror links: Sangh Parivar under scanner

The confession of terrorist mastermind Swami Asimanand who was involved in almost eight terror strikes in India including the Malegaon, Ajmer, Samjhauta Express and Modasa blasts, has brought the terror links of RSS under scanner.

Asimanand's confession before a magistrate spells trouble for the top RSS leadership as it lays bare the entire conspiracy of bomb blasts on Islamic shrines and cities that have large Muslim population. The network of RSS office-bearers and senior pracharaks in the terror strikes has seriously dented the claim of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) that claims itself as a nationalist and cultural organisation.

That Asimanand who had organised the Shabri Kumbh in Gujarat's Dangs district which had been attended by Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states is all the more serious, as the Swami was described the poster boy of Hindutva by the Sangh.

In his confession, the Swami has made chilling revelations including the blasts in Malegaon on two occasions, the Samjhauta Express blasts, terror strikes in Modasa, Ajmer Daragah, minor blasts in cities of Maharashtra and Kanpur, failed bombing plot in Bhopal other than the blast in Jama Masjid in which no one was killed.

Now RSS has to come clean as the charge sheet in different cases clearly show the links of top leadership with the extremists. BJP MPs including Yogi Adityanath and RSS ideologue Indresh are among the leaders who were allegedly aware of the strikes.

Until now Abhinav Bharat, Sanatan Sanstha, Bajrang Dal and similar groups' members were caught for fanaticism and blasts but the scenario has changed altogether now with the clear evidence against the senior functionaries.

All these years RSS has denied that Hindu terror exists in India but the recent revelations show that Hindu or Saffron terror had existed for long and was ignored. Its cadre and leaders were aware yet they closed eye to such activities.

In most of these cases the Muslim youths were falsely implicated. Now the onus is on Sangh Parivar to clean its organisation and introspect regarding its ideology that lets terrorists and extremists flourish. Time for BJP also to redefine and rethink its link with the Sangh Parivar of which it is a part.
