Grand protest march to secure justice for Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula in Delhi, students demand action against Smriti Irani

A grand march to seek justice for Rohith Vemula, is being organised in Delhi on Tuesday.

Students and activists from across the country are converging upon the national capital to raise voice against the caste based discrimination in the campuses.

The march would start from Ambedkar Bhawan and would reach Jantar Mantar. Dalit, Bahujan groups from different states have already reached the national capital.

The Joint Action Committee for Social Justice that is organising the protest, is demanding a legislation, 'Rohith Act' to end discrimination apart from action against Union HRD minister Smriti Irani and BJP MP Bandaru Dattatreya.

The committee alleges that it was the harassment that forced University of Hyderabad research scholar Rohith Vemula to commit suicide. He had been suspended by the University authorities under pressure from the right-wing groups.

BJP MP from Secunderabad, Bandaru Dattatreya and Union minister Smriti Irani had pushed the University to take action against five UoH students including Vemula. The JAC demands punishment against Irani, Dattatreya, VC Appa Rao, BJP legislator Ramachandra Rao, University official Alok Pandey and ABVP leadre Susheel Kumar for 'institutional murder'.
