Women were gang raped during Jat reservation stir at Murthal in Haryana, finally FIR registered

The suspicion that there were mass rapes during the large-scale violence by Jat protesters in Haryana, is coming true with a complaint formally lodged in this regard on Sunday.

A Delhi-based woman came forward and filed an FIR in this regard. She alleged that there was indeed a gang rape at Murthal in Haryana.

She said she had seen motorcycle-borne youths drag a woman and take her to fields. This is the first official FIR in the case. Till now, the government was in denial mode.

Seven persons have been booked in this FIR, said police. The Rohtak officials had till now maintained that there were no gang rapes. Journalists found women's inner wear and eyewitnesses said that women had been subjected to mass rapes.

Also, a truck driver had come forward and testified that women were dragged and raped during the violence but the Manohar Lal Khattar government seemed to be ignoring all these evidences regarding sexual assaults and rapes.

It is suspected that fearing ignominy, most victims had decided not to come to police. The court had ordered the Haryana government to conduct investigation. The Commission for Women (NCW) has also begun a probe.
