Two ancient Kalachuri idols stolen from Katni found in US, process initiated for their return

BHOPAL: Two idols of Kalachuri era that were stolen from Vijayraghavgarh in Katni district are reported to be found in the United States of America. The process for returning these idols has also begun.

The US agency FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) had recently shared this information after an agreement made between Modi government and the US government on returning ancient idols.

FBI shared the information about these idols with the Indian Embassy, which in turn reported the matter to its intelligence wing, the IB (Intelligence Bureau) office in New Delhi.

With inputs from IB office, CB CID office in Bhopal forwarded the information including photographs of the said idols to SP Katni, Gaurav Rajput.

ASP Katni, Yashpal Singh Rajput confirmed that nine idols were stolen from Karitalai Museum and FIR was lodged at Vijayraghavagarh police station in 2006 on complaint of guard Ramlal.

Rajput said that the pictures sent by the US Embassy are very similar to the ones stolen. The idols of God Vishnu and Natraj are valued at about Rs one crore in the international market, added Rajput.

Kalachuri dynasty that ruled parts of Deccan from 10 to 12 century AD is believed to have its origin in Madhya Pradesh. Their ancient capital was situated near Jabalpur which is around 90 kms from Katni.
